About the program

Bioinformatics (BI) is a curriculum pathway within the Biological and Medical Informatics (BMI) Graduate Program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The program offers two optional designated emphases in:

  1. Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CBBI).
  2. Complex Biological Systems (CBS).

We prepare scientists to use tools from mathematics to physics and from chemistry to biology to gather, store, analyze, predict, and disseminate information about biology. The field is essential, for without quantitative analysis of the massive and growing amounts of biological data generated by various systems, biology and -omics data cannot be interpreted or exploited.
